A good Victory Ground crowd watched a season-best performance from this new Sporting team against league-leaders Old Newton. An early long range strike from Jack Edwards gave Sporting the lead, but Old Newton piled on the pressure and grabbed a deserved equaliser just before the half-time break.
In the second half, Sporting defended well and looked threatening on the counter. Will Firrell's pace and strong running led to a red card for the Old Newton centre back with a last ditch tackle as 'the last man'. And it was Will who later burst through and whose shot squirmed under the Old Newton keeper to earn Sporting an important 3 points.
